SYKE –document (Finland, 30 min)
Sound waves are felt with the whole body, and music can also be enjoyed through sight and feel.
Sponsored by RAY, the co-production SYKE (pulse) by the Association
of Deaf People and the Academy of Industrial Art, bravely clings onto a
difficult subject: what does music and rhythm mean to deaf and
deaf-blind children or adults? What is visual rhythm?
Hearing people might consider the thought of deaf people enjoying
music – or even producing it themselves – incomprehensible. Deaf
musicians, dancers and rhythm teachers have tried to break these
preconceptions for decades – even amongst themselves.
